9 Microsoft Security Updates Next Week
Ryan Naraine gives a list of the updates for Microsoft coming out next week. He list nine. I can’t help but wonder that the whole patch management scene is still nonexistent for most small businesses and individuals. 9 out of 10 times when we go on site to help a customer with security issues, patches are one of the biggest issues we see.
The reason patch management is so important is that everyone knows about the exploit! When only a few top gun super hackers know the hole, then while still risky you have to be a target of the big guns before it matters. But when the issues are published to the world, every script kiddie with an Internet connection starts looking for the opening, so they can “own” your computer. Now, they may not do anything with it except brag over some red bulls and cookies about what a great hacker they are, but you are exposed regardless.
If you own a computer, patch management should be #2 on your mind, right behind ensuring your antivirus is up to date. It is one of the simplest, and most important actions you can take to improve the security of your system.
