Spammers using Youtube

McAfee AVERT Labs writes about the latest NUWAR Spamming using YouTube to spread. Of course this is really Social Engineering. A thrown back to the days of “I Love You” and other viruses and now spam that use human curiosity to ensnare people, mail servers and networks.

How do they spam us?

The email is actually an HTML, so you see a link that says it is going to YouTube, but actually it takes you elswhere.

Why spam?

In this case it is a way to spread a virus. Why spread a virus, well some people are just sick. Other times spam is used for profit potential, of course I have no idea why anyone would buy from a spammer. Also, spammers do so to spread an agenda or create havoc for a certain business, IP or mail server. All in all it is definitely not for anything good.

What now?

Well, we (the user all the way to the top of the IT community) have to stay diligent. You have to keep your education systems at full speed ahead and keep users educated. You have to keep your security software up to date, like AV and anti-spam signatures and you have to report and support Can Spam Laws. More than anything, people have to not let these people win by allowing systems to be infected and/or buying their “goods”.
