The secrets to how anti spyware software really works - what they do not want you to know

While every business will have different spyware and adware protection based on its level of risk, there are some general things everyone should know about protection from these unsolicited pests.

Anti-spyware software will both look for and defend your system against both unidentified and identified threats. The anti-spyware software should also get rid of any programs that have already been installed on your computer.

An effective anti-spyware product should also protect these programs from messing with any files and directories on your computer. When an anti-spyware or adware program prevents the unwanted software from tampering with your files, this is referred to as proactive protection. Whereas, reactive protection is when the anti-spyware program tracks the behavior of certain programs installed on your computer, and when it spots anything suspicious, it alerts you.

Many anti-spyware programs use what is known as on-access scanning to prevent malicious programs from attacking. On-access scanning filters and scans files before they can be installed. Since it blocks the initial seed from being planted, the dozens of files the program needs to run never get the chance to see the light of day. On-access scanning is a lot safer than real-time scanning, which is when an anti-spyware program scans your computer at preset intervals daily. With real-time scanning, spyware can get into your computer any time, and the defense program can at best recognize the programs once they’re already installed. Since spyware and adware have so many file components, it is difficult to locate all of their components and get rid of them completely once they’re present.

A hardware product, such as a Web security appliance that is meant to block spyware, works to stop spyware from entering at the edge of your network - that includes your servers, laptops and any computers connected to your network. These hardware products prevent network users from visiting spyware-infested Web sites, scan Web sites for signatures signs of spyware, and prohibit any already installed spyware programs from relaying any information from your network back onto the internet.

Network security devices such as intrusion prevention systems (IPS) can also block spyware as well. These devices were originally formulated to protect against hackers. Now they can deliver great spyware defense, and prevent spyware that has entered the network on one computer from spreading to the rest.

Consulting the professionals at CopiaTech will help you determine exactly what type of hardware or software you need.
